“You just eat up, hun, I don’t need it,” Ruby said to her blind companion. She sat on a stump some distance from the camp, watching her friend intently as he ate.
“Oh, um… right, then…” Joshua ate quietly, tossing what he didn’t finish to Gulliver, who gobbled it down with glee.
“What about this bum?” She asked, pointing at Max before realizing there wasn’t much of a reason, “We’re goin’ into town right? We gonna drag ‘im there?”
“well, w-we could just let him sleep… Gully could take care of him.” Gulliver barked and sat next to Max.
“Good boy.”“Well… Alright, then. You sure that dog’ll keep him safe?” Ruby’s learned distrust of animals kept her skeptical about the dog. Though it’s kept Joshua alive…
“Don’t worry, Gulliver’s a good boy. Aren’t you, Gulliver?” the dog barked and laid down next to max, cuddling under one of his arms to go back to sleep.
“If you say so.” She said, extending a hand to pick him up, “We good to go?”

“Hell, if I know.” He says, cracking the native birds’ eggs into the pan.
“Well, boys,” She said, reaching into her pack to produce an old looking map. “‘bout five miles that way is… a town I don’t know how to say. Or twen’y more miles of forest.”
“T-town sounds nice.”
“I agree. Town sounds awesome”
“Uh… alright then. I think it’s that way. You just, uh… eat up.”

“Then, you’re in for a treat, Josh. You sure you don’t want any Dead head?” He asked as he pulled a frying pan and a camping stove out of his shopping cart.
“Don’ need em. Eating doesn’t help me too much.”
“O-okay… t-thanks, Max.”
“No prob, Joshy.” Max said, lighting the camp stove that he stole from an outdoors store one cold winter.
Ruby sets to mending torn skin, trying to keep busy while the boys ate.

Ruby say down on her bag, stood back up, pulled a sewing needle out of her thigh, and sat on the ground next to he bag. “I uh… you two go ahead.”
“W-well… I-I’m kinda hungry, I-I guess… W-what do you have?”
“Eggs. How do you like them, because chances are I can’t make them that way.”
“I’ll sit this out. Ya’ll two need it more than me.”
